"Red Dog make joyful use of the material...the performances are delightful and captivating"

Red Dog's Story

Red Dog was a real dog. He lived an independent life, owned by no-one but befriended by many, often making unlikely alliances in the heat and dust of the Pilbara Desert, in the outback of Western Australia. His life was one of adventure, discovery, fun, and sometimes danger. If dogs were allocated lives the way cats are, he would have used all of his up! So he captures the spirit of what theatre can be -fun, dangerous, unlikely.
And theatre, like Red Dog, can travel anywhere and be part of anyone's life, even if it is just for one evening. So Red dog we are......

You can read about Red dog's life in 'Red Dog' by Louis de Bernieres.

Theatre at Foyer Arts

Foyer Arts is part of a complex of buildings owned by Five Valleys Foyer, which also houses Star Anise Cafe, Red Dog Studios and various craft workshops used by the foyer. We hope Foyer Arts with its pretty courtyard setting alongside Star Anise Cafe will become an artistic hub for Stroud: a place where good food, exciting performances and an entertaining, innovative approach to the arts can be experienced.

Our aim is to produce and present a year-round rich and varied programme of theatre and other performing arts that will enrich Stroud’s cultural life. Foyer Arts can currently seat up to 60 comfortably, with movable seating allowing for a totally flexible space.

We stage Red Dog performances in the round, which creates a powerful intimacy and immediacy between actors and audience. This approach has become an integral part of our work, and one which we will continue to develop at Foyer Arts.

Our work encompasses textile design and video installation to create bold and striking visual images that blur the lines between visual art and theatre.
